Review: Generic Pharmacy, Lakshmi Nagar, Secunderabad
This small shop on the ground floor in the Picket Main Road, opposite the Hanuman Temple, started ten years ago in 2014. Sells all popular brands of generic medicines at 30% to 60% discounts. For instance, I bought Telmisartan 80 mg 30 tablets at Ra 114 against the price of Rs 276. I regularly buy my BP medicines and save a lot of money. Local doctors have assured themselves that the quality is reliable. There are six medical shops within a km of my house!
This generic shop was the first one to be set up in twin cities when APSCCON was trying to popularise the use of generics and convince pharmacies to sell generics and doctors to prescribe them! Subsequently, there were dozens of them – almost one near every big hospital.
There is a belief that cheaper medicines do not work. The fact is that Generic shops sell quality medicines. They manage to sell cheaply because they cut out middlemen (dealers/distributors) and it is Manufacturers to retailers directly.
