Shortening of URLs – Tech Tips

                          Shortening of URLs – Tech Tips

 Sometimes we get long URLs in email messages. They are unwieldy and irritating  psychologically. You need to pass on the URL only, not necessarily fully as such, along with the irritability component! One example of a long URL is given below:

==
https://m.economictimes.com/news/economy/agriculture/in-a-first-turkey-places-orders-for-50000-t-wheat-from-india/articleshow/91477042.cms?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=NewsDigest&utm_content=News&utm_term=2%20%20%20%20%20&ncode=3a19f6a2892266444d753639d5f1c2227cf44718de6840afbc3520c0fc17e8f4e7e6d527395a8d4ccc8cc129aaae255125aa5976f6c124afa0b7d40e13dd93d2c73aa377b6a6452c04dbf270962c4a08

In the above URL you can comfortably / conveniently delete everything from the right end up to and including
the question mark (?).  Therefore the following URL is equally functionally same as the longer one:

https://m.economictimes.com/news/economy/agriculture/in-a-first-turkey-places-orders-for-50000-t-wheat-from-india/articleshow/91477042.cms

In case you find the 'shortened url' also long and desire to shorten it even further, then you may go to the site:  bitly.com , enter the long URL and get a further shortened version
 - see below!

https://bit.ly/3Ntiqpd

 Above is the shortest you can get! The only problem is that the shortened version does not give any clue about the content or source.  You can always enrich it by adding brief comments preceded by # at the end of the URL. For example, see comment after # in the URL below:

https://binged.it/3wjxznj#nude shilpa

 Another little known advantage of a shortened URL is that you can find out how many times the URL has been clicked. You get this info in bit.ly site on your dashboard page. For instance, the above URL on Shilpa Shetty was clicked 15 times in less than a day, merely from the email page!

 Therefore, you may choose any level you want to go, to help others!
