You tend to sneeze when hair follicles in your nostrils are tickled. One might sneeze involuntarily due to irritants in the nose. Bri ght sunlight, sex, odours, pepper particles in air etc could cause sneezing. There is plenty of literature telling how to ‘treat’ sneezing, stopping it etc. Pinching the nose, Tickling the back of your mouth with the tongue, blowing the nose are some suggestions.

However, I am interested in talking about self-induced sneezing on purpose.

 

You can sneeze at will by inserting a sharp pointed / twisted wet stiff cloth into the base of the nose. Sneeze would come with aloud explosive noise, squirting droplets of mucous filled liquid, all around. Why will anyone induce sneeze?  There are many advantages.

 

It clears the nose of irritants, viruses and bacteria and any preceding headache or heaviness in head would vanish. When you want to spoil (prevent) someone setting out on some important tasks, you can sneeze and he will abort his work, as sneezing at that time is supposed to be an ill omen.  An involuntary sneeze of a thief at an inappropriate moment could reveal his presence to all. When you are in the toilet, struggling to defecate, a good powerful sneeze (induced) will be useful to shakeup the entire abdominal muscles and make the task easier. When you have to enter a room where a couple is having a private moment, you may announce your presence by coughing or better a big sneeze.

 

All said, suppressing a sneeze might damage the ear drum or tear inner skin of the nostrils. One has to be very careful. So, to sneeze or not to sneeze is entirely up to you.
