SSS-Global get together 8^th December 2015 Belson Taj Secunderabad

The much awaited grand get together, with 52 people participating, started off around 10:30 am in Belson Taj Hotel. Ms Kamakshi, the prime mover behind the show, welcomed one and all. Dr Vyasamoorthy narrated how it all started 15 years ago. Owner of the group K Sivaram briefed how the group was born in a cyber café in Marredpally. From that humble beginning we have grown to be 700 strong, with a daily exchange of about 70-80 messages; we have been No 7 among Yahoo Groups, Number 4 some years later and actually on top (Number 1) for few years. Now we are almost always on the top for activity and 4 or  5, for membership numbers. Sri Chary appealed to all members to keep away from politics in our discussions as that brings about bickering and disunity.

Subsequently many members spoke briefly.  Sri Nityanandam recalled fondly earlier meetings with which he was associated. Sri Khanapur Krishna Rao said how photography, music and compiling e-books have been his driving passions. He has written more than 100 pages of his autobiography and about 500 plus e-books. Sri SV Ramana detailed how he has become a globe trotter, belonging to nowhere! Sri Ramanamurthy shared a few good jokes. Moghe Couple sneaked in to give us a one minute skit of uproarious laughter. I call them EVEREADY batteries – always ready to entertain in an unfailing way.

From Ram Prabhakar we came to know how electricity charges can be cut to half by installing Solar energy system in houses. Social aspects of ageing was specially dealt with By Prof Kalluri Subba Rao. Sri Mital explained how he lost faith in astrology: according to their predictions, he should have died many times around – and the last time he went to counter the astrologer for wrong predictions, the astrologer had passed away.

Mr Sivaram announced the revival of music group in his premises shortly. Mr Moghe mentioned how, enthused by sss-global, a group for retired army officers has come up. Justice Rangarajan posed a legal question to rack our brains: A person willed that a diamond bracelet should go to his daughter in law. The ornament was converted into diamond necklace. Then, the man died. Everyone knew what had happened. Will DIL get the diamond Necklace? No, she won’t, as at the time of death, no diamond bracelet existed.  Other people who spoke are:  Mr SS Varma, Mr Yechury Murty.  There were songs by Sivaram and Bina.

Mr Rajendra Rao, Mr Desikamani,  Mr Shankar Rao took charge registration and handling (and handing over) cash. Ms Jayanti from the beginning kept track of participants – who is in and who is out. Sri Shankar Rao donated name badges and banner. Among the people who contributed indirectly – by not coming or not staying for lunch – though having paid, are: Mr RD Vakil Mr & Ms Ramachandran.

During the initial part of the program, there were some inconclusive discussions on the date for next get together. Whatever may be the date, going by the assurances and enthusiasm of Ms Kamakshi, we can safely surmise that years ahead will witness many more enjoyable get together meetings like this. Several photographs and video shots were taken and are available in the web. The meeting concluded with delicious lunch, for which Belson Taj is quite well known. On behalf of sss-global moderators and owner, I extend a million thanks to one and all.

devised by Ms Kamakshi. Winners were given prizes. Congrat to all brainy people.

A Note on SSS-Global Meeting on 4^th December 2011

Registration

Last year it was decided to hold sss-global annual meeting on the first Sunday of December every year.

Accordingly some 45 members met at Sweekar Hall to celebrate the annual day of the SSS global on 4t December 2011. The face to face interaction was wonderful. The registration started at 10 am followed by light breakfast. During the registration participants were given a copy of latest issue of Tarnaka News, Harmony magazine and DVD on Isha Kriya – all free of cost. The program started at 11am sharp.

Speeches

Mrs Kamakshi, the Master of Ceremonies, greeted and welcomed all the guests. An invocation song on Lord Narayana was melodiously rendered by Ms Shanti Shivram. It augured well .

Dr P Vyasamoorthy thereafter welcomed the members and gave a brief report on the SSS Global. How it was the brainchild Mr Sivraram and very well supported by others like Justice Rangarajan, Mr VK Narasiman, Rajendra Rao, IVLN Chary and others. Today it is 5^th among some 700 such groups meant for senior citizens. He went on to describe how several people are regular contributors on various topics of interest for the seniors.  Benefits to members were described. Justice Rangarajan also added his views about the group and how quality information can be shared.

Mr RN Mital also congratulated the efforts of the founder members and threw light on the problems facing the seniors and invited an open discussion about how the implementation of the laws and welfare schemes for elders should be taken up. Dr Vasunder Reddy too gave his positive views about SSS and how regardless of the time of the day he reads the mail and the articles.

Felicitation

The icing on the cake was the announcement of the award given to Dr P Vyasamoorthy. 

ICONGO, VSO and Silver Innings Foundation have jointly initiated an award for Exceptional work for Senior citizens. This is their first year. Dr P Vyasamoorthy was selected for the Award called Karmaveer Puraskar UNV Karmaveer Chakra. This was presented in Delhi on 27^th November 2011. Members of SSS-Global are very proud of this award and facilitated him by a Shawl at the hands of Sri RN Mital.

Narration of Anecdotes

After all the business hour, we moved over to something light and entertaining. T o encourage greater participation from the audience a game was conducted . The members were required to come and narrate a humorous or an embarrassing moment in their lives. Mr Mital. Dr Vyasamoorthy and Dr Vasunder Reddy were the judges. It had a n overwhelming response. Each incident was more hilarious than the other. Justice Rangarajan, Ms Mohini Moghe and Ms Sobha Perindevi were adjudged as best of the top three narrators and were given prizes. There wasn’t any who didn’t enjoy this part.

Fun and Entertainment

Kamaskshi organised a novel game of locating people with maximum number of buttons on their shirt, Most colorful flowers worn by a lady, maximum denominations of money with a person, One with a checked hanky and so on. So prizes were just distributed., like Santa Claus with his bag of goodies. People enjoyed it thoroughly. This was followed by a round of Tombola. All in all more than 22 prizes were distributed and was well appreciated. Thereafter, talented seniors sang, recited poems. Mr Bagade, Dr VBGK Moorthy, Dr Sashikala, Smt Chandrakala, Mr Sivaram sang melodious numbers and engaged the audience. M r Cheenu spoke and expressed his happiness of belonging to this group.

Olla Podrida

The vishakapatnam unit of SSS sent an SMS wishing us a great meet. Mrs Cheenu and Krishna Rao took photos. Through the efforts of Sri Sivaram, Karur Vysya Bank donated a sum of Rs 1500 and this was highly appreciated. Dr Vyasamoorthy expressed his gratitude for honoring him and thanked all participants for attending the meeting with a special mention of  Ms Jayanti, Ms Kamakshi and Mr Sivaram for tirelessly working and making this event a great success.  Ms Jayanthi Menon gave the vote of thanks. The program ended with a sumptuous Lunch.

SSS global get together.

Held on 5^th of December at Surya Towers, Secunderabad.

Registration started at 10am.

The organizers did a very systematic job of collection of money handing over the badge and leading the members to the hall.

Here they were welcomed with hot tea/coffee and delicious potato bondas.

The members greeted each other introduced themselves and engaged in interesting healthy conversation.

The program started at 11am sharp. The MC Mrs Kamakshi greeted everybody thanked them for coming, followed by Invocation song by Mrs Srividya Murthy. Mr Nityanandam welcomed the guests .narrated how the get together was initiated by him along with a group of people in November 2010.

Thereafter Dr Vysamoorthy the co-ordinator gave a brief history of what is SSS global .

It started as a discussion group, the brainchild of Mr Sivaram way back in the year 2001.

In 2006 Sociey for Serving Seniors was started. The main objective is to empower senior citizens to lead independent life with dignity and self respect through fulfilling a providing a vatiety of information needs. SSS became the executing arm of SSS Foundation later – a trust founded by Justice Rangarajan. Mr Narasimhan, Dr P Vyasamoorthy, Mr Rajender, Sri IVLN Chary are the Trustees of SSS Foundation.

The discussion which was earlier called SCF Forum was re-christened sss-global and became the main activity of SSS. Since then it has become a very active group with more than 605 members spread across the world. The idea is to generate healthy intellectual stimulating information to be shared amongst one another on varied topics of interest to seniors.

Predominately they undertake projects for community welfare, offer assistance both financially and work force and contribute constructively for the welfare of the society.

Dr Vyasa moorthy went on to say how it has become a very active group and the number of mails received has multiplied beyond proportion, thus showing the interest invoked in all. To add humor he also stated how lengthy attachments are forwarded and how chain mails have run into dozens. He also mentioned how the decorum is maintained and topics on Religion, pornography questionable mails are avoided.

The next half hour was OPEN HOUSE inviting members to pose questions and seek clarifications.

Suggestions poured in. Dr Vasunder Reddy said the Get together should become an annual feature. This was unanimously accepted and the 1^st Sunday on December was earmarked as the SSS Global annual day. Mr Narasimhan opined that we should meet regularly and offered his residence as the venue. Mr R.N.Mital also supported this idea and stated the Lions Bhavan could also become the venue.

To answer Mr Narasimhan’s query as to what SSS was doing Mr IVLN Chary said that it would like to as a catalyst, to help organizations serve the society, like visit Senior facilities, evaluate them, give ranking and pass on the information. He asked people to volunteer, Mr Badrinarayanan instantly gave his name. It was decided to form sub-groups to take up fresh projects.

Mr Sivaram then described how he started the “Rafi Club” to promote music and enable like minded people to meet and enjoy their talent. Today they meet regularly and last week they had a meet at national level .People assembled from all over the country met at Dolar-e-dhani had a wonderful time.

Mr Sreedhara Rao described how they have promoted a senior facility in A.S. Rao Nagar its activities like games sessions in Carrom, chess regular visits by the members to read, watch T.V. with a group and so on.

Due to constraints of time the open discussion ended.

Two people came all the way from Vishakapatnam. They are: Mr Y.V.S.R.Moorthy and Mr S.R.K.Rao. We were very happy with their enthusiasm. They honoured Mr R.N.Mital and Dr Vyasamoorthy with shawls. Mr.Y.V.S.R. Moorthy spoke of the activities they have taken up in vizag – like: the setting up of an organization Called

” BRAVES “ and also distributed 2 Telugu books published by him.

In order to bring out the importance of Family, Mr Krishna Khanapur showed how to draw up a family tree tracing the forefathers, the present generation, for the future members in the family to know. He also distributed samples of the Family Tree made by him and as well a booklet published by him.

Mr RN Mital formally released the first copy of the “Directory of the SSS-Global members” This was kept for sale for Rs 50/each. (Towards the end of the meeting all the copies brought for sale were sold out.) Mr Mital then addressed the gathering, congratulated the efforts of the group, highlighted the importance of information sharing, collective representation for the common cause of the Seniors, the apathy shown by the Govt.towards the representations made by the seniors on the protest Day on 16^th August etc. He suggested that we should all come together aggressively and fight for the welfare of our fraternity.

Mr.I.V.L.N.Chary distributed pre-addressed post cards appealing to the P.M. to take strict action in the 2G Spectrum scam and to curb and Control Corruption.

This brought the end of the business session.

The next 1 hour was of entertainment The members enthusiastically participated in singing ,cracking jokes. The following members rendered beautifully songs from different genres like devotional,classical, films and so on. Mrs Vidya moorthy,Mr Eashwar Rao Bagade,Mr Nityanandam,Mr Shivaram,Mrs Shashikala,Mrs Geetha,

Mr Sreenadha and Srreedhar narrated jokes which brought fits of laughter and lightened the mood of all. Mr Ramesh Kamkilikar read out poetry written by him which was well appreciated.

Mrs Jayanthi Menon gave the vote of thanks.

She especially appreciated the efforts of the members from Vizag, thanked the members for coming in such large numbers, the caterers for the food and the Hall. The Team of people like MR. Rajender, Mr Nityanandam,Mr Desikamani Mr Shivram,,Mrs Kamakshi, and of course the Leader Dr. Vyasamoorthy. Thanks are also due to all sss-global members who have sent best wishes for the success of the event in sss-global and over phone.

We all thanked Mrs Jayanthi menon for doing a great job with the food.

The last item was an English song by Mrs Kamakshi which was appreciated by all.

Every participant left the venue carrying a memento to cherish his taking part in this great event.
