Review - Knowledge Junction of Ailments Part 2 by C Shankar Rao

Review: Knowledge Junction of Ailments (Part – 2)

A booklet by Shankar Rao Chepuri

The publication under review is a sequel to the one with the same title issued in 2020. It is a veritable compilation of titbits, extracts, reports, articles etc. It is beneficial to all especially senior citizens, as almost all topics dealt with affect the elderly also. I am sure there will be something new for everyone, even highly educated persons. I found ORAC and ‘sookshama’ yoga new to me. Articles on the same topic may be combined for example: prostate problems. Most articles may be read in a sweep of the eye – short and sweet.

Sri Shankar Rao has a penchant for selecting photographs. Inside Cover and outer cover photos prove he is popularly felicitated. Messages from Dr Vittal Rao and Dr Sobha Perindevi add immense value.

Part 1 was well received, and so will this part 2 too.  I am committed to the subject of gerontology and geriatrics and take pleasure in welcoming this booklet with all my heart.

All in my imagination

All in my imagination

I was wandering like a cloud
over a busy street, where I saw
men laughing and smiling & having fun

I was wandering like a cloud
over a garden of flowers
and saw dancing and quivering daffodils

I was hovering like a cloud
above one over-used railway track
and saw a long train of goods wagons

I was hovering upon a beach
like an eagle searching for his prey
And saw a snail reaching out to the sea;
It was too small for my hunger
so, I let it go

Review: Generic Pharmacy, Lakshmi Nagar, Secunderabad

Review: Generic Pharmacy, Lakshmi Nagar, Secunderabad

This small shop on the ground floor in the Picket Main Road, opposite the Hanuman Temple, started ten years ago in 2014. Sells all popular brands of generic medicines at 30% to 60% discounts. For instance, I bought Telmisartan 80 mg 30 tablets at Ra 114 against the price of Rs 276.  I regularly buy my BP medicines and save a lot of money. Local doctors have assured themselves that the quality is reliable. There are six medical shops within a km of my house!

This generic shop was the first one to be set up in twin cities when APSCCON was trying to popularise the use of generics and convince pharmacies to sell generics and doctors to prescribe them! Subsequently, there were dozens of them – almost one near every big hospital.

There is a belief that cheaper medicines do not work. The fact is that Generic shops sell quality medicines. They manage to sell cheaply because they cut out middlemen (dealers/distributors) and it is Manufacturers to retailers directly.

Website Review -- Ambiphone

Website Review
https://ambiph.one

This website, with a not-so-familiar domain name extension, is
excitingly interesting. You may test your ears in a fun-filled way.
The site hosts a good number of sounds and noises, both natural and
artificial, all nicely categorized. Have a good speaker/headphones and
enjoy. If you are living in a noise-free zone, it is all the merrier.

Some random observations:

1. I have not heard the sound of a whale earlier. It is like that of Indian
buffalo. Do you agree?
2. The noise of traffic is from a western city, not our familiar one.
3. Are all arcades in the west this noisy, I wonder
4. You may play the keyboard sound at night when others are
sleeping and fool them that they are dreaming
5. I have heard of white noise. But what is brown noise? New Info indeed.
6. The printer's noise of sucking a fresh sheet of paper or
getting initialized upon switching on, is different from mine – HP
LaserjetP1007
7. For us used to Deepavali crackers, the crackers sound in the
site is 'jujubi' nothing ear-worthy!
8. Very useful site to spend an hour or so, feasting your ears. I
do not know how you would feel if you were used to wearing earphones
regularly.
