Fwd: [sss-global] Health benefits of sss-global!

sss-global is a discusion forum for senior citizens.
One member Sri S Varma talks of:

Health benefits of sss-global!

1.  It keeps us busy, which is very important for our age group. Being busy imperceptibly reduces depression/hypertension and thus works like a medicine particularly for those with high blood pressure, hypertension, and cardiovascular issues. It also helps reduce the feeling of loneliness.

2. When your post generates appreciation or at least a "thank you", you feel happy.   The feeling of happiness stimulates the production of "Happiness Hormones" in your body, particularly dopamine and serotonin. Dopamine is a pleasure hormone that is released when you achieve an objective and feel you are on Cloud 9; it motivates you to work harder to achieve even greater satisfaction.  Serotonin is the key hormone of happiness, since it regulates mood, prevents depression, thwarts irritation and makes you happy and sociable.

3. Some of the posts on health issues, based on the members' personal experience, benefit us directly. Other posts provide leads to dive deeper in medical literature to educate ourselves and take control of our health issues. This helps us talk to our doctor(s) knowledgeably and better understand the medicines being prescribed.

4. Associated with the above benefits and indirectly contributing to them are:  a feeling of self-accomplishment, learning and development, self-confidence, no time for negativity, and making new friends.

I invite other members to expand this list.

Inauguration of Senior Citizens Home in Mahabubnagar

Inauguration of Senior Citizens Home in Mahabubnagar

On Sunday 25th October 2015, along with Sri Rajendra Rao, Sri IVLN Chary and Sri A Suryanarayana, I participated in inaugural function of a new old age home in Mahabubnagar. It is Vayojana Saphalaya Nilayam (Senior Citizens Rehabilitation Center) set up by Ramakrishna Seva Trust in the Oblaipally Village. Nearly 120 people participated. Sri Shthikanthananda Swamy and Sri Bhithiharananda swamy of Sri Ramakrishna Mutt were chief guests.  The trust has about twenty trustees – our Smt Pushpalatha Yelisetty is one of them. She donated Rs 10 Lakhs.

There was Vastu Puja, Satyanarayana Punja, felicitation of dignitaries etc. An hour long meeting with nearly ten speakers was held, after Puja and distribution of  Prasadam and Theertham. Several persons were honored with shawl and garlands including Dr Vyasamoorthy. He delivered a short speech in Telugu. All participants were given breakfast and lunch.

The old age home has 18 double rooms. Ground floor is now complete; plans are afoot for two more floors of similar capacity. Rooms are spacious, well lighted, well ventilated.  The trust has arranged a free medical consultancy by leading specialists in almost all fields in the OAH premises once a week on Sundays. Routine operations of the home will start in a couple of months. An indication that an advance of Rs 10000/- and a monthly charge of Rs 4000 per head is envisaged for occupants of OAH.
