Music therapy for senior citizens

Kozhikode: Senior doctors and musicians under the aegis of Cardis
India Health Care is organising 'Samayamithapoorva Sangeetham-
Arogyam', a free health programme for senior citizens of Kozhikode, at
IMA Hall here on Sunday.

The programme will be inaugurated by former Minister for Health P.
Shankaran while KTC managing director P.V. Chandran will inaugurate
the music therapy programme.

Senior doctors, including A. Ramanathan, Bhadran, K.N. Raveendran, M.
Vijayan, K.V. Sahasranam and Ajith Bhaskar will deliver talks on the
occasion. Awards will be presented to senior artistes.

AIR artist Gitadevi Vasudevan will deliver a talk on music therapy.

Noted musicians in the city, including Salam, Sujatha, Ajith, Usman,
Nasar, Sindhu, Pappan, Shenoy, Vinod, Jayaraj, Shaju and Vijayan
besides Rajiv from Kollam, are taking part in the music therapy
programme. Mr. Rajiv will conduct a Rafi music night in association
with Kozhikode-based fusion band 'Intelligence' that work against
smoking and drugs.

My Comments: Senior citizens must explore all kinds of alternative therapies for alleviating pain and avoiding depression. Music, meditation, Religious lectures have all their place. At least there are no side effects and almost always these are free.If you know of music therapy activities in other coties please let me know.
