  1. The data makes very interesting reading. It strikes like a sledge hammer that the three States viz., AP, Karnataka, and TN occupy the top slots, AP being the fore runner, TN sliding, and Karnataka stagnant. Kerala must be self sufficient with petroleum dollars flowing in from the GULF. What is the reason for the wide gulf between the southern States and others? Is it because of the Silicon Valley NRIs, who are mostly from the South. Gujarat's omission is conspicuous. Maharashtra's care for Seniors is woefully inadequate, despite being a prosperous State. Or is there more than meets the eye.

  2. Thanks for your comments / observation. According to HelpAge Directory 2009 Maharashtra has more than a 100 OAHs. Real count must be much more.
Senior Citizens Movement and awareness is very high in that state. Private enterprises / trusts take care of such OAHs without trusting govt. You will be surpised to learn taht in that state there are 2000 (yes 2000) SCAs exclusively for senior women! In any AISCCON annual conference you can see hundreds of rural old ladies as delegates!
